The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is teaming up with Harvesters for its 33rd-annual Go  for the Green food drive.

Thousands of people in the Kansas City area are considered food-insecure, meaning they may not know where their next meals are coming from.

Schools and businesses can take part by collecting non-perishable items, and supporters can donate money in their behalf at harvesters.org.

In a very short amount of time we raised anywhere between 30,000, 60,000 meals," said Jan Aylward, food drive chair. "We're trying to up the ante on that."

Go for the Green ends St Patrick's Day. The need for food assistance has grown. One in seven people in Harvesters' 26-county region are food insecure.
