The Community Blood Center in Kansas City is reporting a blood supply emergency.

"We're asking people who maybe haven't donated for a while to come in and donate -- if you've never donated, come in and donate," said David Graham, executive director. "If you do have a mobile drive occurring at your work, your church or wherever, make a special effort to get out and donate."

Donations usually fall off during the holidays. The flu epidemic may have something to do with the extreme shortage this winter, officials believe.

Typically the Blood Center keeps a three- to five-day supply of all types of blood. They were down to a one-day supply as of Thursday.
